Playing on a World of Warcraft PvP (Player versus Player) server offers an extra layer of excitement. Getting the opportunity to kill a wayward Dwarf is a nice change of pace from killing your average computer controlled monster.

Leveling a character on a PvP server, however can often be an annoying experience. On your average PvP server, it’s commonplace to see level 70s harassing lower level players. So what can be done to solve this issue? While the advice I offer won’t completely eliminate this problem, it should noticeably improve this issue for most players.

Play in a Group – Playing on a PvP server solo is a risky proposition. Without a group to offer back up, you’ll fall easy prey to an enemy player. By grouping with other nearby players, you improve your survival chances significantly.

Focus on Instances – By working on instances, you temporarily remove the PvP aspect from the game. Plus you get better loot from the monsters. Don’t focus too much on instances since you get more experience by turning in quests.

Pick a Server that Favors Your Side – Go to a site like WoW census (Google it) and find out which server has the most players for a particular side. If you’re Horde, starting a character on server that’s Horde dominant can make your playtime more fun and productive.

Play during the Off-hours – If your lifestyle/job allows for it, Try playing during the off hours (like after 2 am or so). Fewer players will mean less ganking. I like doing this when I need to do quests in areas deep within enemy territory.

Avoid the Ganking Hotspots – As an example, If you’re Horde, try to limit your time in Hillsbrad. Because the Alliance town is a close proximity, there are times when it’s easy to get a Night Elf dagger in your back. For more information, try consulting the official WoW forums.

Don’t Let the Ganking Stress You Out – Fact is, World of Warcraft is a very user friendly game. Even if another player repeatedly kills you, you lose nothing. Compare this to other online games where other players can kill your character and steal all your items. The penalty in WoW is tame by comparison.

The PvP server can be a double-edged sword. It brings excitement but it also brings some hardships. By following the advice I just mentioned, your PvP leveling process shouldn’t be too bad. Have fun and good luck on your journey to 70.

Broadberry Data Systems have introduced its new range of Tape Backup Solutions. The range includes the PivotStor TL2000 2U Tape Library, the TL4000 4U Tape Library and the TL8000 8U Tape Library.

The full range of tape backup solutions are available in LT03 or LT04 modes with the flexibility for fibre channel, SAS or SCSI/LVD connectivity. The range also offers remote management via a web-based interface allowing the tape library to be accessed from anywhere.

With a compressed capacity of up to 38.4TB the 2U tape library is perfect for those moving from direct-attached tape drives or a tape autoloader. The TL4000 4u tape library can handle up to 48 tapes from 4 magazine up to 12 magazine slots with a compressed capacity capability of up to 76.8TB (terabytes). The TL8000 8u tape library can handle up to 96 tapes from 8 magazines up to 12 magazine slots.

The Broadberry range of tape backup devices provides a cost-effective solution for organisations to quickly generate off-site archived backups, with features including light-sensing technology which enables robotics to position accurately with the magazine cartridge slot of the tapes. Dual-armed carrier technology secures the cartridge during load and fetches operations, and motor-driven gear technology precisely aligns robotic tracking and positioning.

“Risk cannot be measured,” is a common scientific and mathematical phrase often applied to information security. While it’s true some risk measurements are subjective, it’s naive to believe measurements aren’t attainable. Risk is not a number, but a measurement of risk is.

For example, you can measure:

* The percentage of vendors meeting an organization’s standards, * A percentage level of compliance to regulations, and * The number of vulnerabilities present in an environment.

It’s critical for credit unions to identify, prioritize, and manage risk. Management and technical staff must jointly define criteria for measuring information security performance. And these measurements should clearly align with business goals and strategies.

When developing measurement criteria, avoid technical, legal, and subject matter jargon. Focus on measuring the services rendered. Clearly define goals, strategies, and measurements. This facilitates open communication, prudent planning, and financial rewards.

Here are common excuses for avoiding risk measurement:

* “Management doesn’t understand.” Information security encompasses technical and physical security issues. Ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability requires deep insight into technology, risk modeling, physical security, laws, and regulations. Technical complexities often hinder communication between management and information technology (IT) staff. The challenge for IT staff: Convey complicated information simply and clearly. The challenge for management: Be willing to accept change.

* “Security measurement is for large credit unions only.” Incorporating information security risk measurement into an organization’s processes takes time, persistence, and often a cultural change. People often feel threatened, dislike change, or have social motivations that slow the process. But credit unions of all sizes benefit from risk measurement activities. It may take time, but persistence pays off when the measurements support budget requests and supply valuable return-on-investment data.

* “Security moves too fast.” Technology continues to change at an astounding rate. Many people feel information security measurement can’t keep up with technological change. But the problem actually may be poorly designed measurements. The intent of measurement is to align corporate strategies with IT. Clearly define the organization’s goals and objectives. Then measure information security as it relates to those goals and objectives.

SMART measurements

Prudent decisions require simple, measurable, attainable, repeatable, and timely (SMART) information. Keep information security risk measurements:

* Simple. Each measurement’s objective must be clearly understood by all intended parties. Create a list of key performance indicators. Avoid technical, legal, and other jargon. Avoid data overload”stay focused on specific performance measurements.

* Measurable. While many facets of security and risk are hard to quantify, focus on what can be measured”for example, the number of vulnerabilities or the number of incidents.

* Attainable. Some measurements are direct outputs of existing reports and systems; others may require analysis to derive the value. Make sure your measurement goals are attainable over time, since they must be continually assessed and managed with minimal cost.

* Repeatable. Since you’ll want to show trends to generate useful data, make sure the measurements are easy to take over time and can be repeated.

* Timely. Outdated information can skew analysis and directly impact decisions. The timeliness of data often determines its value. Make sure measurements are easy to deliver as needed. Aim for maximum automation with minimal manual activity. Establish clear communication and access rights at the start.

Your credit union can measure information security performance. Risk models, financial measurements, key performance indicators, and other measurements can help you align information security with organizational goals and strategies.
